In general though, best winter car I have ever owned, and I came into the Tesla from driving a Range Rover and Acura MDX, which are both pretty solid winter cars.
Handling / Traction Control on the Tesla are phenomenal. And having the app is the best thing ever. You don't have to "start" the car and let it warm up.. instead, you just open the app on your phone, turn on the climate control and let the interior pre-heat. So not once in the winter did I ever jump into a cold car.
Biggest thing with cold weather is that the range definitely takes a hit. Especially when the car is cold. Once you're driving for a while the batteries warm up and the efficiency improves, but on short trips with a cold soaked battery you'll chew through the juice fast. More than temperature though, what eats battery is driving fast. I head to Gimli a lot... if I do the speed limit, the range is as predicted. However, you know... it's hard to go the speed limit in a car with so much power. The faster you go, the quicker it drains.
For service, couple of things... one: Tesla has a "ranger" program where they send a person to Winnipeg every 3 months. They charge $1500 for a ranger visit, but when it's scheduled like this all of the owners in the city just split the cost, so it's like $80 to take your car in to see the ranger (they do it at Don Vito Collision). They can't do major repair work here, but they can do minor things. If major work needed to be done, the closest dealer is technically Eden Prairie in Minneapolis, but since that's Tesla USA they'd probably rather send you to one of the Canadian dealers (Calgary, Toronto).
